When I composed Lamplight Penance, I was inspired by Henri Chatillon’s longing both for his life for adventure and, more importantly, his dearly departed love, Sni Mato (Bear Robe, translated). Over the past few months, a conundrum that I’ve been thinking about is what to do with ideas that do not really fit in with the Chatillon Lux line. Whether it’s due to the story behind them, the cost of the materials making them prohibitively expensive, or just compositions that would only appeal to a very narrow section of people, some ideas have been left to fester in the back of my mind.
